Sesbania Seed – Kohenoor International

Sesbania for Waterlogged Soils – Thriving Where Others Fail

Overview

Sesbania is uniquely adapted to waterlogged conditions through several specialized traits. Its ability to form aerenchyma tissue in roots and stems allows oxygen transport to submerged tissues. Sesbania rostrata can even develop functional stem nodules above the waterline, enabling nitrogen fixation in flooded fields.

Details

In seasonal floodplain agriculture across Bangladesh, Myanmar, and the Mekong Delta, sesbania is the only practical green manure option during periods of shallow flooding. It can survive submergence of 30-50 cm for extended periods, continuing to grow and fix nitrogen while most other legumes would perish.

Why Choose Us

Waterlogging-tolerant sesbania varieties are particularly valuable for pre-rice green manuring in lowland paddies. Our selection includes both S. rostrata (stem-nodulating, highly flood-tolerant) and S. aculeata (versatile, high biomass) varieties suited to different waterlogging regimes.
